As a result of the collaborative work between myself and Dan Hawk at the Sustainable Development Institute of the College of the Menominee Nation and Ron Richardson of the Alain Locke Charter School, funded as part of the Chicago Public Schools we want to create a Lunar National Agricultural Experiment forum which is a tool that enables student research.

We are pursuing several initiatives. First we want to enable plant research by creating low cost controlled environment plant growth chambers. We want to use inexpensive, often recycled materials if possible to create
tools which are practical and affordable for students in school setting and which are energy efficient as well. Cost is a significant barrier for many schools and students so we encourage participants in this forum to share their ideas and techniques.

Second, we want to set a high bar for the work we do. We want students to become familiar with and use accepted
tools, protocols, instrumentation, and publication standards in their work. There is always a learning curve for new participants so we want to set an encouraging tone not at critical one when a critique of someone's work is given.
We want to foster a climate that encourages exploration, experimentation, and a" try it and see how it works "mentality. We want to encourage enthusiastic inquiry not dampen it.. There is no doubt that "stumbling around"
and "trying things out" is what experimental science is all about. Both Thomas Edison and Robert Goddard were prolific in their efforts and an experimental failure was a discovery in what didn't work and what not to do. The process of trial and error in learning is what we want to be about.

Third, while we might talk about "stumbling around trying things out" we really want to encourage participants to
find out what has been done by others and to be as prepared as possible in their "stumbling around" and experimental inquiries. We will develop a forum library of useful information

were going to the moon

has nothing to do with water on the moon
it's about going into space.
the moon is the first and easiest target, into space.

*** Edited for violation of Rule 1 *** - Eric

you just bring your backpack with you and whatever you have is fine.
theres got to be regular supplies of food, and supplies brought in

water is going to be an issue.

i suppose regular shipments of water.
what do they call those? arrowhead water, and spakletts water

so, the bog bottles of water! arrpwhead bottles style water bottles

to drink and to shower.

i want some nice clean showers. one bottle of water per shower

----there will be many bases. and competition for where to stay, like motels,-----

i'm gonna start designing another moon base with 3d max right now. It's gonna be called maybe

"moon base center 001" (a.k.a. mikes moon base)

i'm gonna build it piece by pice, I will have sectional panels. each panel will fully seal. I want a double wall construction.

the first building will be "building number one"

I will just bring it in, and set it down. its just a tuff shed type thing. i will go inside and install a solar panel. that sticks out.

i want solar power. that will run a small light that will illuminate the interior.

i will go inside, and use silicone to seal the interior. and put layers of stuff as sealant.

----there will be many bases. and competition for where to stay, like motels,-----

any kind of plaster of paris type stuff

sunkist soda 2 liter bottles. from earth.

water bottles 2 liter bottles, and the milk type bottles. its so much nicer when you get to be alive and drink water and soda and stuff. so much better than dyeing of thirst. remember water is the key ingredient to sustain life. when we are there.

the pioneers will be the hardest workers to survive. build, drink water and leave,. the next guys will have it that mich better,.

what fun it will be to be looking forward to getting back and seeing the building that the other guys (or you) started building! and you get to continue building it!

i really want to do this !!

i so want to do this. i want to bring jeep wranglers up there wouldnt that be fun !? yuo just need gas and they should drive just fine.

ok fine we need another car that is sealed off no convertiles just yet,

cause you have to breathe the air inside the car. so it will be a special air generator and the car will be sealed.

did you know that you can survive in space for almost 2 minutes before blowing up>? you can! thats enough time to get out of the car and get into the base.

and the moon should be a little better than in actual space.

they have ashleys twisted evil icons here.

From the Rules:
This forum is intended, in part, to serve as a resource for schools and students researching space exploration and lunar colonization. Keep discussions and content appropriate for a family audience. That includes usernames, signatures, and custom user titles, as well as links to external material.

Michael, I welcome you to the forum. While I know there hasn't been a whole lot of discussion lately, our members represent a great deal of experience. Some of them are actively involved in the space program. There is an excellent opportunity to participate and learn here.

However, do keep in mind that this forum is intended for serious discussion. It will be a long time before we are talking about bottled water and Jeep Wranglers (with hydrogen fuel cell engines, of course!) on the Moon. In the beginning the question is how to sustain a settlement with minimal resupply from Earth.

If you wish to make humorous posts, you may do so in The Commons. I prefer that you keep them limited to a specific Humor thread. However, all humor and all content must be appropriate for a family audience at all times. If you do not know what that means, or if you do not wish to comply, then do not post on this forum----Eric.
