As Editor of Moon Miners' Manifesto, I have begun to collect articles from the first twenty years (we are now nearly at the end of our 23rd year) according to theme, in large pdf files, at http://www.moonsociety.org/publications/mmm_themes/

We have now collected all the articles bearing on how lunar pioneers must live in an environmentally responsible way.
You will find Eden on Luna 1 and Eden on Luna 2 in the above directory for you to download and read.

The next step is to go through these two publications and create a subtopic outline. This outline will help those of us doing outreach to the Environmentalist community to show how well pioneering the Moon can fit into terrestrial environmental needs. The outline would help organize a conference designed to engage terrestrial environmentalists and environment-concerned space enthusiasts.

The moon definitely won't support a "throwaway society"—at least, not for longer than about two weeks. While I may indulge in such here, out of inertia (if not outright laziness), I recognize that it is ultimately unsustainable.

I'm of the opinion that we space enthusiasts ought to be sponsoring more experiments along the lines of the Biosphere 2 project. But instead of trying to replicate Earth with coral reefs, savanna, etc. it should use hydroponics and the best recycling and reprocessing technology we can develop. Let's develop the techniques for supporting a space colony here, where you can just open a door if things go wrong.
